Providing a positive living and learning experience for students
The Pastures, a high-quality 1,262 bed, student accommodation scheme opened its doors in August 2023 ready for the University of Essex’s new intake.
The five newly constructed buildings are five to six storey’s high. In addition to the bedrooms, the project has also created a new hub which includes a launderette, reception, post room, an administrative area, student services centre and staff welfare facilities.
The development followed phase one (648 new beds and the stock transfer of 772 beds) and phase two (643 beds) of the project.
The range of accommodation choices ensures that students benefit from a positive living and learning experience on the campus. In addition, The Pastures follows the University’s objectives towards a more sustainable environment and form of living for their students.
The scheme, which has been built by Bouygues UK in the green outer space surrounding the Colchester Campus, was completed within a tight programme despite the team facing challenges such as increased lead times and shortage of materials.
Kat Morris, Senior Project Manager at Bouygues Development commented: “I have worked with Stace on numerous projects over the years and have always found them professional, knowledgeable and proactive. They integrate themselves into the project team and encourage the collaborative working environment which is so important in the work that we do.”
