In February 2016, Merlin outlined its ambition to double the pace of accommodation roll out each year, as it develops its theme parks into short break destinations.
The new hotel extension is the UKs first flagship BBC ‘CBeebies’ themed hotel, which caters specifically to families with younger children and accompanies Alton Towers Resort’s existing CBeebies Land within the theme park.
Stace were appointed as Project Manager/ Employer’s Agent, Cost Manager and CDM Co-ordinator for the design and delivery of a fully themed 76 key bespoke hotel extension, which sits alongside the existing themed hotels and spa facilities at Alton Towers Resort.
The new hotel consists of four storeys, with the ground floor offering restaurant space in the form of the Windmill Restaurant, and the ‘Musical Meadow’, a separate entertainment space, bar and restaurant, with a 200 seat capacity. Bespoke furniture and audio visual equipment were specially installed to support the hotel’s year round entertainment programme of live shows and character meet & greets, which run seven days a week.
Upstairs, the three upper floors are made up of 42 standard CBeebies Bugs rooms and 26 premium rooms/ suites, each decorated in one of six core themes (Swashbuckle, Postman Pat and Octonauts, to name a few!). Again, bespoke fixtures, fittings and furniture were installed to bring the magic of CBeebies to life for hotel guests.
With the short development programme from conception to completion stage, Stace worked closely with both the project and client team, and main contractor to deliver the project in time for the peak summer 2017 period.
