Background

A distinct, flagship self storage scheme in Kings Cross

Our client, Big Yellow Self Storage, has opened a flagship store set in the heart of London featuring a unique art installation. The project involved demolition and clearance of the existing site prior to the construction of a double storey basement, ground floor and six upper floors as well as external landscaping.

In addition to the 106,000 sq ft of self storage space, this new store features flexible offices and working spaces, climate-controlled wine storage and over 1,600 secure storage units.

The flexible working space includes a communal business hub with meeting areas, a kitchen and soft seating. The store also features one of the UK’s largest floor art installations in a commercial setting, measuring 5,000 sq ft which was conceived and created by artist Danny Rolph.

The Kings Cross store marks the 109th store opening for Big Yellow Self Storage who aim to assist local people and businesses by bringing more space into their lives.

Sustainability is a significant part of the project, as the Kings Cross store has been fitted with an extensive range of features devised to reduce its impact on the environment. These include a green roof, solar panels and electric vehicle charge points.
