Stace was appointed between 2006 to 2018 by Primark to provide Project Management and Employer’s Agent Services on a number of conversion projects. These formed part of an acquisition of Littlewoods stores at Portsmouth, Eastbourne, Southend, and Glasgow.
Stace worked with Primark on a number of new stores across the UK in high street, shopping centre and retail park locations. These projects included the fit out of developers’ shells, conversion of existing stores, and extension and refits of trading stores.
The projects ranged in size (up to 65,000 ft²) and complexity and included enabling works, asbestos removal, and structural works. They often included new build extensions, significant structural alterations, vertical movement (lifts and escalators), extensive M&E services and sprinklers, all forming part of a high specification fit out.
Our appointments started with the negotiation of specifications, input into the agreement for the lease, monitoring of developer or landlord works and then the project management of the fit out scheme, together with the Employer’s Agent role to administer the contract works.
Our long term involvement with Primark led to strong relationships with the client and consultant teams and achieving significant experience in large scale non-food retail.
This, together with our background and knowledge of retail, enabled us to deliver successful projects for Primark. We understood the drivers, including the ability to react quickly to change, identify the important elements in the design and fit out works, produce phasing to suit the works and manage fast track construction works. All of this was possible through our having an understanding of the retail team and their needs.
Our experience with the then Primark New Stores programme led to our involvement in the development of their new Refit programme.
