Works commenced on site in April 2019, redeveloping and extending the existing wet leisure facility into a modern centre accommodating both wet and dry facilities, along with extensive external works including the creation of an additional 100 car parking spaces.
Additionally, the project includes refurbishing the existing sports centre building and converting into a modern cultural centre, with an exhibition space, bar and a café, and a 511-seat theatre.
Stace is delivering Cost Management services for our client, St Albans City & District Council on Harpenden Leisure and Cultural Centre.
The existing swimming pool and changing rooms will be in operation during the works, with only a short period of full closer being required to facilitate the completion of the overall building.
Acoustic considerations have played an integral part of the new cultural centre, with the design requiring accommodating the potentially high levels of sound and reverberation from music concerts that will impact the external areas and nearby residential properties.
