We were appointed by St Albans City and District Council in 2017 as part of the team to enhance their leisure facilities in Harpenden Town Centre. The scheme also involves converting their existing sports centre into a cultural centre and encompasses works to two separate buildings.

The first building, Harpenden Leisure Centre, comprises the refurbishment of the existing swimming pool facilities to improve the main pool and changing facilities, with a large extension to increase the leisure offering, including a brand new 17-metre-long learner pool with moveable floor, a sports hall, dance studios, changing rooms, a steam room, sauna and reception area and a gymnasium with spectacular views of Rothamstead Park.

The second building within the scheme is the conversion of an existing sports hall building into the Harpenden Cultural Centre with a 511-seat theatre with balcony viewing, museum space and meetings rooms, which will host national and local touring productions.

A new c.100-space car park and revitalised landscaped public realm area also forms part of the scheme.
