Repurposing a previous department store
The redundant retail store, Debenhams, in Leeds will be transformed into a mixed-use scheme. We worked with the owner on plans to provide a flexible commercial space featuring 3 units totalling 45,000 sq ft, 124 student beds and 118 student apartments.
The plans sought to incorporate four communal areas and a “courtyard wellness garden”, which will be constructed within the building. The project aimed to preserve the building’s 1930s architectural appearance whilst adding a fifth floor, plus retail space in the basement, ground and first floors of the building.
There was a strong focus on sustainability by achieving a high BREEAM score.
