Developer, Tellon Capital has received the green light to redevelop Chineham District Centre.
The scheme involves ‘opening up’ and re-organising the site to improve the visitor experience. The plans will bring a new medical centre to Chineham in addition to shops, restaurants, a gym and a hotel.
The redevelopment will create improved pedestrian and cycle access throughout the centre including better connectivity to the ancient woodland to the north. Other improvements include new public spaces in the central areas of the site and extensive landscaping for the local community.
Reconfiguration of the car parks and utilising the existing levels across the site will increase capacity whilst improving accessibility and circulation.
Stace worked closely with the consultant team to devise a development phasing strategy to minimise disruption to the existing tenants during construction, whilst also delivering the maximum amount of new space in the first phase.
Basingstoke & Deane is a growing borough, with the Borough Council’s Local Plan aiming to provide 850 news homes a year up to 2029. The enhancement of Chineham District Centre will help support this population growth by delivering more shops and services.
Construction is anticipated to begin in January 2021.
Amy Jones, Head of Planning, Tellon Capital LLP said:
“We are delighted to have received support from the Planning Committee for our regeneration proposals at Chineham District Centre. We purchased the centre in 2018 with an ambition to greatly enhance the offer to better serve the community and bolster its status as the heart of the community. We are grateful for the support of the Council, local residents and our tenants in enabling us to progress though the planning phase of the project.”
Simon Hugill, Partner at Stace LLP commented:
“We have greatly enjoyed supporting Tellon with their plans to enhance Chineham District Centre. These plans will bring about a much-improved retail and leisure experience for the community.”
Stace LLP is providing project management and employer’s agent services, overseeing the design & construction stages. 3D Reid architects, Macgregor Smith landscape architect, ICIS Design Ltd, Barton Willmore and Silcock Dawson also make up the project team.
