On Thursday 8 December, our client, Be First, celebrated the topping out of Gascoigne East phase 2’s, last block F2. Willmott Dixon, the main contractor, is building phase 2 of the estate which will deliver over 500 new homes, green space and public realm, within an approximately 553,000 sq ft space.
Be First is Barking & Dagenham Council’s development and regeneration company which plans to deliver 50,000 homes in the borough by 2037. One of their key aims is to ensure that sustainability is thoroughly embedded into this project. Rooftop photovoltaic cells and a connection to the district heating system will help reach the target of cutting the homes’ CO2 emissions by 40% compared to what Building Regulation would normally expect. Built to Passivhaus standards, the homes are warm, well-insulated and ventilated and just as importantly, will save residents money on energy bills.
Councillor Saima Ashraf, Deputy Leader at Barking and Dagenham Council gathered with representatives from Be First, Willmott Dixon, Collida and Stace.
We are proud to be delivering this scheme for Be First and look forward to the finished product.
