Rangeford Villages has marked the start of construction for its new retirement village in Stapleford, Cambridgeshire, with a ground-breaking ceremony.
The new later-living village fills a 13-acre reserve on the Gog Magog Hills with views of the nearby countryside park (spanning 50 acres). The project has been constructed on a portion of land previously used for growing strawberries.
The development will offer 147 modern retirement properties, which will cater to the needs of those over 60.
A range of sensitively designed bungalows and apartments will be integrated into the village, along with the following amenities: a gym, yoga studio, coffee shop and bar, bistro, members lounge and a hair and beauty salon and wellbeing centre (featuring a pool, sauna and steam roof).
Energy-efficient features will be put in place such as double-glazed windows, underfloor heating, and an all-electric energy system. A sustainable approach is also being taken with the aim of saving an estimated 1500 tonnes of carbon during the construction process. The project has a biodiversity net gain of 274% and will create nearly 20 hectares of grassland and 600 sqm of sedum roof space.
It is anticipated that the project will positively impact the local community. Approximately 200 individuals across all trades are to be employed during the construction phase, with apprenticeships also being offered.
The first phase of the scheme is due to be completed in 2024, with building works expected to be completed in 2025.
