On Wednesday 29 March, we celebrated an exciting milestone in the delivery of new homes to the Gascoigne Estate. Our client, Be First, Barking and Dagenham Council’s regeneration arm, has added 159 new homes to the east side of the neighbourhood.
Councillor Saima Ashraf, Deputy Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council and Ben Addison, Assistant Delivery Director at Be First, attended an opening ceremony alongside members of the project team and the main contractor Willmott Dixon.
The Gascoigne Estate is one of London’s largest regeneration projects. The delivery of these homes reflects a £57m investment by the council and brings the total number of completed homes to 685 out of 2000 so far.
The redevelopment will include 11 new build residential apartment blocks, built around gated courtyards ranging from 6 to 14 storeys in height. 51% will be private market rent, 35% a mixture of London Affordable Rent and Affordable Rent with the remaining 14% Shared Ownership.
The development will also include commercial units incorporated in the residential apartment blocks, a new park and tree-lined public spaces.
Ben Addison, Assistant Delivery Director at Be First, said: “At Be First, we’re passionate about delivering for Barking and Dagenham, and making sure that the borough is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. These safe, warm, and well-ventilated homes, support our mission to deliver more much-needed homes across the borough.”
Councillor Saima Ashraf, Deputy Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council said: “This demonstrates the Council’s commitment to providing affordable, quality homes for local people and families with fantastic play areas and sustainable spaces for young people to have fun and grow-up in one of the greenest urban neighbourhoods in London.”
