When given the opportunity to work toward reducing the carbon footprint of the community in Westminster, we were eager to assist.
The opportunity arose due to our work on Westminster Council’s Luton Street, which is near the college. Project Director, Alec Penn delivered a presentation on sustainable technology and the ways it can be practically used in construction for as part of the Green Live Learning Lab, a low-carbon technology and renewable energy project being run between Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES)’s and WCC. He also took the group on a tour of the recently completed Luton Street plant.
“It was a great opportunity to be part of this educative initiative and it’s amazing to see the great lengths that WAES are going to expose their students and neighbourhood to a more sustainable form of living,” says Alec.
This project was set up to support local families to live more sustainably and be aware of what the district is doing in the Borough to reduce their carbon footprint.
Amy Dunkley, Sustainability Learning Coordinator at WAES commented: “We had a strong attendance and despite the technicalities discussed, students were very engaged. Being able to visit the new flat and the plant room was really valuable for supporting the classroom learning and giving it practical context”.
We hope the Green Live Learning Lab will be of encouragement to other organisations and help them take the much-needed steps towards a more sustainable form of living.
