Lansdowne Club

Background

Reconfiguration and refurbishment works within a private members club in Mayfair.

The Lansdowne Club is a private members club in Mayfair, London, featuring a predominantly Art Deco interior. Established in 1935, the building was granted a Grade II listed status in the 1970s.

Stace was approached with an 18 month schedule of works which the club required to be undertaken. These projects ranged from minor refurbishment works to major remodeling of the interior and exterior structure. Works included the refurbishment of the staff canteen and other back of house areas, the remodeling of the existing entrance and cloakroom in order to better facilitate disabled access, and the complete refurbishment of the existing second floor restaurant, bar, bathroom facilities and third floor kitchen.

Our Role

Stace was appointed in a Cost Management capacity for the duration of works.

Our Impact

Stace worked closely with the project manager and design team to agree a scope of works for the second and third floor bar and restaurant. This met the club’s requirement of a high quality restaurant and bar, yet remained within a tight budget.

Budget aside, one of the main challenges of this project was carrying out extensive refurbishment works within such a prestigious setting while the club remained open to guests and members.

Temporary dining and kitchen areas were created, and the contractor and club maintained daily contact to establish if any noisy or disruptive works were to be carried out and to what time frame. This allowed the project team to keep up to date with the project and permitted the club to give members and guests plenty of notice of disruption during the day. Scheduling and constant communication was particularly important as no noisy works (which could cause inconvenience to members staying at the club) were permitted ‘out-of-hours’.
