Located in the heart of Southampton, Bargate Quarter is a 421,656 sq. ft residential led mixed use regeneration development has commenced on site with Henry Construction as the Main Contractor. To celebrate the start on site, a ground-breaking ceremony took place on Tuesday 1st February 2022 with representatives from Tellon Capital LLP (Developer), Legal & General (Funder/Owner) and Southampton City Council officially commencing activities on site
This scheme will transform the former Bargate Shopping Centre and is set to open up and celebrate some of Southampton’s richest historical assets, including the 800-year-old town wall which will run through the site. The Bargate Quarter will deliver 519 residential units and approximately 2,515 square metres of retail, in addition to significant public realm improvements.
Southampton has no major greenfield sites available on which to create new homes, so the extra housing to meet local needs, will have to be provided on brownfield sites. Bargate Quarter, therefore, presents a vital opportunity to help the city in meeting its housing targets in a practical and sustainable way. The building has been developed with sustainability at its core, including a carbon reduction of circa 50% compared to the baseline assessment because of active and passive measures introduced into the design.
