Transforming two historic landmarks for modern use

Stace was appointed on the refurbishment of two heritage barristers’ chambers buildings for the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple.

To minimise disruption, works have been phased so that the activities to either building were carried out while the other building remained occupied. Middle Temple sits within a conservation area and so careful consideration has been required to ensure the works are sensitive to the existing finishes and the surrounding area.

Garden Court is a Grade II listed building and comprises of 20,000 sq ft arranged over six storeys. Blackstone House is a seven-storey building totalling 23,000 sq ft. The works include internal alterations, replacement and installation of existing lifts, alterations and repair to the MEP systems and fit-out. The project also involves an extension of the sixth floor of Blackstone House and partial demolition of the existing two-floor atrium. A new five-storey glazed atrium provides a common reception for both buildings and connects the structures on the upper floors.
