Fight for Peace is an international not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to realise the potential of young people living in communities affected by crime and violence. To achieve its mission, they offer boxing and martial arts teaching, education programmes, careers guidance, and leadership and mentoring programmes.
The latest works to the London Academy, located in North Woolwich, involved the construction of several new elements to support the organisation’s work. Combat sports facilities were refurbished and expanded with the addition of a purpose-built weights room, a martial arts dojo and a shower and changing room block. New classrooms and a training room were constructed and, most recently, a new centrepiece and entrance for the Academy – the Hub – was added.
The Hub provides access and links between the other Academy buildings as well as providing a new main entrance and focal point to the building. Its construction has created an essential space to welcome Fight for Peace members and provide specialist support to them.
Stace is incredibly proud to have collaborated with Fight for Peace and deliver multidisciplinary services on the new hub building which now links earlier construction phases together providing Fight for Peace with a high-quality building to enable their team to continue their tremendous work.
Partner, Marc Eagles attended the official opening and commented;
“It was incredibly rewarding to deliver the latest phase of construction works and to see the new entrance and hub in full use on the opening night and being enjoyed by staff and students. It was inspiring to hear the young people share their stories on the positive difference that the new facilities at the Fight for Peace London Academy are making to their lives.
“We are delighted to have been part of this project and take great satisfaction from the fantastic end result which we feel will assist the Fight for Peace staff at the London Academy, in providing such great support to youngsters in the community’.
James Baderman, Interim CEO, Fight for Peace commented;
“The latest improvements to our Academy facilities have enabled Fight for Peace to engage more young people through increased sports sessions, and support them to gain the qualifications, employability skills and confidence they need to get on and progress in their careers and their lives.
These new spaces have also been invaluable in allowing Fight for Peace to serve as a training hub for over 30 community organisations from Glasgow to Croydon. It has been our pleasure to work with Stace to deliver this project and we extend our thanks to our many supporters who enabled us to make these improvements, with a special mention to Credit Suisse, ICAP, the Cabinet Office and The Gerald and Gail Ronson Family Foundation.”
