Our Stace Next Gen Programme began on Monday 29 July – providing six paid work experience placements for two weeks across our offices. Oversubscribed with applications, the six students were selected through their passion shown in wanting to find out more about the industry.
During the two weeks, the Year 12 students (aged either 16 or 17) spent time with our service lines, gaining insight into the variety of careers available. To showcase the sector further, the Next Gen students were taken on-sites across the UK, seeing first-hand projects being delivered.
On the final day, there was an employability day delivered by the Construction Youth Trust aimed at developing their communication, teamwork and presentation skills. Additionally, members of Stace delivered talks on their different routes into the industry, discussing the differences between apprenticeships and degrees.
The feedback received from the students included 100% of them stating that the programme has influenced their future career plans and 100% would recommend the programme to those who were looking for work experience in the sector.

The Stace Next Gen Programme was launched following the findings from our Next Gen Index. The Stace Next Gen Index found that just 7% of 16-18-year-olds across the UK chose the construction and built environment sector as their first career choice. The report further identified that 63% of respondents are seeking more information on careers, with 88% stating that work experience is the most helpful tool.
